Message from the 18th Executive Board of the Korean Association of CranioMaxilloFacial Surgery (KACMF)
The Korean Association of CranioMaxilloFacial Surgery (KACMF) has reached its 32nd anniversary since its inception in 1993 as the "Research Group for the facial deformity." Thanks to the dedication and passion of our predecessors, we have evolved into a distinguished professional society comprising 1,055 full members and 264 associate members as of November 1, 2025. Today, our association leads comprehensive medical research—ranging from congenital deformities and facial contouring to craniofacial trauma, reconstruction, and cutting-edge 4th Industrial Revolution technologies such as navigation, simulation, AI, and big data—all while steadfastly contributing to patient life and health.
The 18th Executive Board, in solidarity with all our members, is committed to further solidifying the traditions and values of the KACMF. To ensure our continued progress, we will focus on the following key objectives:
-
First, we will ensure that the exceptional surgical expertise of our senior members is effectively passed down to the next generation.
Through the tireless efforts of our predecessors, our association has achieved world-class academic standing. Our mid-career surgeons, including the current board, have also exerted their best efforts to uphold this legacy. We will provide high-quality educational opportunities for junior doctors and dedicate ourselves to nurturing future leaders who will spearhead the field of craniofacial surgery.
-
Second, we will solidify the professional standing of the KACMF.
Our association, which oversees the treatment of congenital deformities as well as craniofacial trauma and tumors, represents an "essential medical field" within plastic surgery. Based on this foundation, we will strive to improve medical insurance fee structures and establish an academic status that distinguishes us from other medical specialties.
-
Third, we will showcase the excellence and sophistication of our craniofacial scholarship through continuous international academic exchange.
Currently, we maintain active collaborations with numerous international societies, including the EACMFS, APCA, ESPRS, ASMS, and JSCMFS. We aim to expand these academic exchanges and build networks with a broader range of countries to further enhance our association's global prestige.
-
Fourth, we will strive for the continuous advancement of our official journal, Archives of Craniofacial Surgery (ACFS).
Launched in 2000 as the "Journal of the Korean Cleft-Craniofacial Association" and renamed ACFS in 2012, our journal has become the official joint publication of the Asian Pacific Craniofacial Association. Currently published six times a year and indexed in PMC and SCOPUS, we will continue to invest in its growth and academic impact.
Although our two-year term is relatively short, the 18th Executive Board will remain dedicated to the development of the association, strengthening our unity and enhancing the pride of all KACMF members.
We look forward to your continued interest and active participation.
Thank you.
